CLASSES !      Kids' Craft Classes - The Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals provides several classes to give kids a chance to express their creativity and learn new arts and crafts skills. Your child can learn how to WIRE-WRAP A SHARK TOOTH OR ARROWHEAD, MAKE A GEM TREE FROM WIRE AND GEMSTONES, STRING A PROFESSIONAL-QUALITY GEM NECKLACE, and More! Classes typically take place on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm.

     Faceting - To cut facets or small faces upon; as, to facet a diamond. Taught by members of the Columbia Willamette Faceter’s Guild The allure and lore of gems! Beautiful, exquisite. With a total of 20 hours of instruction, you can cut, polish and keep your very own gemstone! All equipment and materials are provided.

     Gemology 101* - Taught by Graduate Gemologist, Duane Ray. The allure and lore of gems! Beautiful, exquisite. Learn where they come from and how they are marketed. Learn what unveils their beauty and what determines their worth. This course will discuss the many things that give value to take away value from both diamonds and colored gemstones. Students will learn the difference between natural, synthetic, imitation and look-a-like gemstones. At auction or retail, you’ll be a savvier shopper after taking this course taught by a Graduate Gemologist.
